Create an Inbound port allow rule on Windows Firewall – Windows Server 2022

Windows Defender Firewall is a firewall component of Microsoft Windows. In this tutorial, create an Inbound port allow rule on Windows Firewall.

Demo environment

  • Computer Name: Server1.test.com
  • Operating System: Windows Server 2022 Datacenter
  • IP Address: 192.168.0.2

Steps for Creating an Inbound port allow rule on Windows Firewall

  1. Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security
  2. Select Rule Type
  3. Configure Protocol and Ports
  4. Configure Action
  5. Specify Profile
  6. Specify Name

1. Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security

Open the Server Manager dashboard click Tools and select Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.

Select Inbound Rules and click New Rule.

2. Select Rule Type

In Rule Type, Select Port and click Next.

Port: Rule that controls connections for a TCP or UDP port

3. Configure Protocol and Ports

Specify the protocols and ports to which the rule applies and click Next.

In this tutorial, we choose one port (21) and one port rage (60000-60100)

4. Configure Action

Specify the action to be taken when a connection matches the conditions specified in the rule, Select Allow the connection, and click Next.

5. Specify Profile

Specify the profiles (Domain, Private, Public) for which this rule applies and click Next.

6. Specify the Name

Enter Name and Description for Inbound Rule and click Finish.

Name: New Inbound Rule

The inbound port allow rule has been created, Verify the Inbound rule.
